1. Time Your Time Well
Every student has his or her own daily highs and lows. Some of us are night owls while others are morning lovers. The trick is to take advantage of the time of the day you feel most productive; and not trying to force yourself to study when your brainpower isn’t at its peak. Study when you are able to process and retain the information that you are studying.
2. Have A Happy Place
Whether it’s the kitchen table or a desk in your living room, create an area to study that you can call a “designated study zone”. Reserve your bed for sleeping and avoid studying (all too easy to take a nap otherwise!). Most importantly, keep your study space clean and organized so you can put more time into studying. 3. Get Chores Out Of The Way
Take care of daily chores before or after your study session to avoid interruption, or being distracted by an unfinished to-do list. Getting chores out of the way makes it much easier to focus on the task at hand – study. Plus, you can look forward to relaxing when your study time is done rather than dreading the chores that need to be completed.
4. Switch It Off Please
It’s crucial to let everyone else at your houses know the study plan, whether it is a set time each day or a block of hours on certain days. This will give you quiet time to focus and hopefully ensure that you are not disturbed by anyone. If your phone is your biggest distraction, you know what best can be done!
5. Time Your Table Well
Creating a timetable helps organize your time, schedules deserving breaks, and is especially useful when you have multiple subjects to study. Write down the schedule so you can remember it and refer to it often. Set reasonable limits for how much time you spend studying each day, and break it up into manageable chunks of time. Using a timer to help keep track of time may help!
6. Activate “Active Studying” Mode
Active studying is nothing but asking questions before, during, and after study time. This helps to give your study session a direction, and also reflect on how to improve for your next study session!
Questions to ask yourself before studying:
- What am I about to learn?
- What do I already know about this subject?
Questions to ask yourself while studying:
- Do I understand what I have just read?
- Are there any keywords or concepts that I need to write down? Why are they important?
Questions to ask yourself after studying:
- What can I take away from this study session?
- What do I need to review or learn next time?
7. Go To Your Cave
Your brain can only take a certain amount of information at a time. For every hour that you study, you should take about a 10-minute break to do something that takes your mind away from studying. For example, go for a walk (if you are able to), listen to some music, play a game, chat with your friends, savor your favorite coffee, or even take a nap.
8. Be Your Own Teacher
Various researches show that students have better recall abilities when they learn new information with the expectation of having to teach it to someone else. The students are more engaged and will instinctively seek out methods of recall and organization when expected to take on a “teacher” role. You can also write some answers and correct them as your teacher and assess yourself.
9. You Have Earned It
Pack up your study materials at the end of the day, so that you can relax properly for the evening without those books staring at you. Positive reinforcement is a great tool for staying motivated. Reward yourself in small ways after completing tasks. Treat yourself to having your favorite snack, watching a movie, or playing a computer game. Find whatever keeps you going, “you have earned it”!
10. Take Up Some Online Courses
